Categorize and price your donations for maximum tax benefits

As a fashionista, it's a constant balance between keeping up with the new styles and getting rid of the outdated trends that you'll no longer wear. If you are concerned about saving the environment and recycling, it's a no-brainer that you are most likely making regular trips to local donation centers or charities to let others benefit from your past purchases.

Most donation centers provide receipts for donations, but they don't list the items donated or their value. Make it one of your New Year's resolutions to fill in your donation receipts listing each item, approximate value, and a grand total. Then you can provide your accountant with accurate information to maximize your tax benefits.

You can find a list of approximate "values" from several websites including Goodwill.org and SalvationArmy.org. Here is a short list to help you get started:
