Fans of “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” movie are no doubt anxiously waiting for the release of the sequel film this November, and the Hollywood Hills revealed this Wednesday, Jan. 30, an in-depth interview with the director that may make that wait a little bit easier. “Catching Fire” director Francis Lawrence recently opened up on some of his favorite scenes that have been filmed so far, adding that a particular clip of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen and Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne before the arena will be especially memorable.
As many “Catching Fire” fans will agree, the sequel adaptation has some excellent original content to work from, and Lawrence agreed that the film version will stay true to the book. In addition to working closely with author Suzanne Collins, Francis added that some cuts were made but that it will be a “faithful” movie.
“I would say it’s a really faithful adaptation. We definitely made some cuts … but we did it with Suzanne, and I’d say it’s faithful. We tried to get as much as we could in there.”
Lawrence also spilled some insights on the hotly anticipated arena scenes, calling it his very favorite clips to shoot.
“It’s interesting because there’s a very small blur … The moment in the arena when the gamemaker starts to spin the cornucopia, and I’m very proud of that. We designed a cool sequence with a spinning island, and it’s going to be very cool.”
Jennifer Lawrence’s scene with Liam Hemsworth will also be a “moving” one for fans, added the director.
“You know one of the very first things we shot was quite like this [with Jennifer and Liam], and there is a sort of goodbye before she goes into the arena that I like a lot.”
With newly released aerial photos of the cornucopia hitting the internet this week, it may not be long before a "Catching Fire" trailer heads our way in the coming months.
