Katniss Everdeen's followers might want to start lining up now. Lionsgate announced yesterday that tickets for "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" will go on sale October 1 at noon eastern time. The highly-anticipated sequel is due to hit theaters worldwide on November 22.
Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson reprise their roles as Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, continuing the ongoing saga adapted from the bestselling trilogy of young adult fiction. Philip Seymour Hoffman joins the extensive cast for the next chapter, alongside returning players Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland.
Last year's "The Hunger Games" grossed a worldwide $700 million dollars. It was the 14th highest-grossing North American film release of all time. Suzanne Collins' followup novel Catching Fire has been printed over 50 million times.
Lionsgate also announced the debut of the first single from the "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" soundtrack. Coldplay's "Atlas" hit iTunes yesterday as the first single from the film's soundtrack. T Bone Burnett produced the original "The Hunger Games" soundtrack, which earned a Golden Globe nomination. "Safe & Sound", Taylor Swift's collaboration with The Civil Wars, won a Grammy earlier this year in the Best Song Written for Visual Media category.
Once advance tickets for "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" are available for purchase, they can be purchased at online ticket outlets such as Fandango and MovieTickets.com. Lionsgate's 'TickTock' promotion will reveal new developments each week via The Hunger Games Explorer. The countdown to the sequel release is being celebrated with the hashtag '#TickTock12' across all social media.
