Nothing says ‘summer’ like a hot dog in one hand, a beverage in the other, the cool evening air taking the heat of the day down a few notches, and the crack of ball against bat echoing through the stadium that is brilliantly lit up around you.
Nothing says summer in Denver like a Rockies’ game!
Having come from a small town where the local minor league stadium was so small that a $7 ticket got you a seat where you felt like you could reach out and touch the players they were that close, the Rockies’ stadium came as a shock. The Rockies play at Coors Field—and Coors Field is major league, purple and silver, summertime baseball fun.
This huge stadium has several levels, bricked walkways, and friendly helpful staff always on hand to point out your seats. The upper right field seating area has undergone a redesign and now The Rooftop, as its called, is the newest addition to the stadium. Grab a hot dog and check it out!
Coors Field is right down town, located at 2001 Blake Street, right near Union Station and near all the amenities that downtown as to offer. You can drive, and there is parking available, but it is limited. Unless you plan to get there very early, you are better off taking an alternative mode of transportation or finding a parking garage nearby.
Within walking distance of the RTD Rail Station, taking the train serves as a liberating way to get to the field if you plan to have a few beers during the game (or after). If the weather’s nice, it’s a pleasant option and the walk is decent. Just be prepared to follow the signs to get to the field, as there is a lot of construction in that area at this time. If you are like this writer, then don’t wear flip flops and take the long way from station to field, as you can wind up getting some blisters. Grab a pair of tennis, follow the signs, and get there fast. Otherwise, there is always a Taxi or bumming a ride.
Just a few minutes’ walk from the stadium, literally across the street, you’ll find Jackson’s of Denver. “Since the first pitch was thrown in 1995, Jacksons has been the first choice of baseball fans and late night party-goers alike.” With an open patio, brick walls bedecked with sports paraphernalia, and a glittering full bar, Jackson’s makes itself an easy destination as an after-game hang out.
Happy summertime adventuring and play ball!
