There is a growing trend in the Rock genre that some love and some hate---Change. For some bands it works. For instance, Three Days Grace's newest album, Life Starts Now, has very bright sounds compared to their older stuff, which is refreshing. Then there is bands like Breaking Benjamin and Chevelle who never change anything and seem to sell just as many albums as before. I guess what it all comes down to is change can be great as long as it's not overly done. The newest single from Linkin Park is a prime example of too much change.
Linkin Park had a promising start back when they released Hybrid Theory and continued the same writing formula for the next album, Meteora. They made a lot of their fans happy. Then out of nowhere came Minutes To Midnight. MTM had a few duds, but overall was filled with a fresh sound that overshadowed the bad. Somewhere along the way Linkin Park lost focus. "The Catalyst" is by far the most headache-inducing mess of a song to be heard in the last few months.
The song starts out sounding almost normal until out of nowhere what sounds like the Mortal Kombat theme introduces itself into the mix. As if that's not bad enough, there is so much commotion that it's almost unbearable. Not until the last minute of the song does this get better and by then it feels like too little, too late.
You can hear "The Catalyst" on Lincoln's own KIBZ, 104.1FM, The Blaze.

Idk why everyone is complaining, honestly they sound great no matter what type of genre they are, so stop the complaining and if you dont like the new sound shut your mouth and stop listening. You wont me missed so dont worry.
You won't be missed* is what i meant :P sorry haha
I find this story to be insanely opinionated and invalid. They wanted to do something different and ignorant music listeners everywhere just don't like change. DO you think Linkin park wanted to stick with the same old premature music writing process that most bands share? They seemed to always strive to break music grounds and do something different. I am very happy with the change in this song. It did need some work but it's great for a first shot at electronic music. We need this in the foreground of the charts.
definitely miss chester going all out and shinoda rapping. idk wth this is anymore...
its understandable that LP wanted to make something different...but this far? This is madness! How could you be at one category for years and make something unrecognizable later on. The songs are just off from what we usually here from LP!
