Cat thrown from window recovers at Washington Animal Rescue League

Pinto is one young tabby cat whose life so far has been a series of unlucky and lucky events.

Unlucky: Pinto’s former owner decided to rid herself of him and his brother by throwing them both out of an upper-story window. The two cats were only about 4 months old at the time.

Lucky: A neighbor witnessed the incident and went outside to rescue the cats, thinking she would keep them both.

Unlucky: Pinto’s right front paw was badly injured; it stuck out at an odd angle and he couldn’t walk on it. (It wasn’t clear if the injury resulted from Pinto’s fall from the window or from some earlier incident.) The rescuer surrendered Pinto to a local animal shelter.

Lucky: The shelter took Pinto to the Washington Animal Rescue League, where he received top-notch care at the league’s medical center. It turned out Pinto’s paw was fractured in four places, but in a 30-minute procedure, the bones were straightened into correct alignment so a splint could be applied.

Lucky: Pinto is now recovering at the league, sporting a splint that he has to wear for six weeks. (He really doesn’t like the splint.) When his paw has healed, he will be made available for adoption.

Considering where he started from, these days Pinto looks like one lucky cat, and someday some Washington-area cat lover will be lucky enough to take him home.

The Washington Animal Rescue League is located at 71 Oglethorpe Street NW.
