CAT Theatre will open their 50th season with the female version of Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple. The show opens on October 25 and runs through November 9. The female version of The Odd Couple takes a different twist to the script. Instead of the traditional poker party, Ms. Madison invites the girls over for an evening of Trivial Pursuit. Then it gets funny.
The show is being directed by Melissa Rayford who is making her directorial debut with CAT. Of the show Rayford says, “It's been such a blessing to work with a theatre that has such a strong base of talented artists. The mammoth portion of a director's job is casting the right people to do the job, and I was incredibly fortunate in that respect. This group of actors is so giving and willing to play that every rehearsal is a discovery and a joy. I can't wait to share our zany characters and their hilarious story with the CAT audience later this month!”
Rayford has cast some CAT favorites in the rolls of Olive and Florence. Amy Berlin, who plays Olive, has acted and directed at CAT and is a recipient of CAT’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Donna Marie Miller received CAT’s Best Actress “Tabby” Award for her role as Vera Claythorne in the 2012-2013 season’s production of And Then There Were None. Also returning to the CAT stage is the 2012-2013 Best Actor winner Richard Halenda for his role as Saul in Play On!
The Odd Couple is the first production of CAT’s 2013-2014 season. As part of the Acts of Faith Festival, CAT will produce The Joshua Plant, an original play written by Amy Berlin and P. Ann Bucci, from January 25 through February 8, 2014. CAT patrons selected Enchanted April as the play they would most like to see return to the stage. Enchanted April opens March 21 and runs through April 5, 2014. Closing out the season will be another comedy, Leaving Iowa, which runs from May 23 – June 7, 2014.
The CAT Theatre Playhouse is located at 319 N. Wilkinson Road, Henrico, Virginia 23227. For tickets visit the CAT Theatre website at www.cattheatre.com.
