Howie the cat was stolen near the Burke Gilman Trail in Washington State ten years ago – and his mom never stopped searching for him. Howie is a beautiful tabby who was adopted when he was a tiny kitten. He was stolen so many years ago when his mother was on a trip to Spain.
Howie's mother never quit searching for him. After many years of searching, crying, and wondering, she finally adopted another cat, but she never stopped wondering and looking for her wonderful missing tabby.
According to the Seattle Animal Shelter, Howie finally came in to their shelter this month, where he was scanned for a microchip. Shelter staff saw that Howie had been stolen long ago and they began making phone calls to find his family. Amazingly, they found Howie's Mom.
On Saturday, Aug. 23, after ten years apart, Howie and his mom were finally reunited. Howie’s mom opened up the kennel door. Howie leaned in to be petted – and soon, after so many long years, he was in his mom’s arms once again.
Howie has rejoined his family, including a feline sibling who was adopted while he was missing. Howie’s story is a wonderful reminder that it’s so important to properly identify our animals – and to never give up hope. Microchip, license, and tag your animals – and ensure that your contact information is current so anyone who finds your missing animal can contact you immediately.
