Cat rescued after being frozen to driveway

Stephenville Crossing, Newfoundland - Somehow Trooper managed to survive an estimated eighteen hours frozen to a driveway.

Just a few days ago, rescuer Gwen Samms received a phone call about a cat who had not moved from a resident's driveway.

When she arrived, she witnessed a heartbreaking sight...a beautiful cat whose legs, tail and backside were completely frozen into the ice-coated driveway.

It took several buckets of warm water to free him from his frigid confines.

Tragically, the family who phoned Samms had allowed this cat to suffer in their driveway throughout the entire night and through much of the following day.

How he managed to stay alive is a mystery.

Today, this cat has a name - Trooper.

Samms has shared the following about his current condition:

He's currently at the Humber Vet Clinic. His xrays have been sent to the vet college, and an orthopedic surgeon, both are consulting with Dr. Tipple to determine the right course of action for Trooper. He has three separate pelvic fractures and displaced bones. The fractures can be corrected. The concern is the nerve damage which is preventing him from urinating or defecating on his own. He will remain hospitalized to further evaluate the nerve damage, with prayers that it recovers enough to give the lovely boy quality of life.

At the vet clinic he will be kept comfortable and have help with his bodily functions while we wait on his nerves recovering. One foot is not showing good signs of circulation yet.

Individuals who have learned of Trooper's story have clamored to help pay for his many veterinary expenses.

Anyone interested in donating can do so via this Chip-In link.

Trooper seems to be soaking up the warmth and comfort offered by his rescuers - those who have met him describe a friendly cat with a wonderful personality.

A cat who was saved in the nick of time.

Be well Trooper.
