Classic Monopoly, the game of our childhood, has changed! Joining the Scottish Terrier dog, a cat is the latest token for this iconic board game. The cat has ousted out the iron in a Facebook-run contest pitting tokens against one another to see which one was least popular.
The iron received only 8% of the vote, and will no longer be featured in future editions of the game. According to a story from Reuters, factories will immediately begin making games with the kitty, and will be available in stores later this year.
The dog received the most votes to stay, receiving 29% of the popular vote, making it a clear fan favourite. Other tokens that almost lost their place in the game were the wheelbarrow and the shoe.
The Monopoly Facebook Page features a picture of the new kitty game piece, larger than life, visiting the hosts of the NBC Today show on February 6th, 2013. The cat appears to be a short-haired feline and is sporting a pretty collar with a "M" medallion on its neck.
