Cat found near death in gutter by Clark Park

UPDATE 1/6/12: City Kitties Rescue

Clark Kent update: The PSPCA Humane Officer assigned to Clark Kent's case just called to notify us that his former owner will be going to trial. We are unable to provide any further information. What we do know is that no jail time will be involved given Pennsylvania law--abandonment is a summary offense for a first-time offender, not even a misdemeanor. We are thankful for the hard work of the PSPCA Humane Law Enforcement division, who stand up for animals like Clark Kent every day.

UPDATE 11/22/11: City Kitties Rescue has reported that Clark is alert, but is dehydrated, exhausted, and emaciated. They are overwhelmed by the generous response from people all over the world for Clark Kent. Thanks to you, his medical expenses are more than covered, and any additional donations will be used for other stray cats and kittens that need veterinary care. They are hoping to pursue cruelty/neglect charges against his owner. This person will at least be added to every “Do Not Adopt” list in town. Here is the link to read the full update on him.

Microchips help bring frantic guardians and lost pets back together. They also uncover neglectful, uncaring owners who probably don't want to be found.

Today this poor cat, now named Clark Kent, was found by a good samaritan in a gutter by Clark Park. Lucky for him this person cared about him more than his owners and got him the help that hopefully will save his life.

When he was brought to the Cat Doctor his body temperature was 90 degrees (instead of the normal 102 degrees), and a blood PCV of 8 (normal is 24-45). They believe his poor condition was due to a bad case of fleas which can cause anemia and weight loss.

Diamond, the Cat Doctor's housecat is donating blood to save him.

Because Clark was microchipped his owners were contacted. They admitted that he was "acting sick" so instead of doing what most caring guardians would do and take him to the vet, they put him outside.

They probably didn't remember that the cat was microchipped and could be traced back to them when they chose let him go and not give him the care he needed. Why did they bother to adopt only to turn around and abuse him? He is only about 2 years old, and was adopted just six months ago.

This is the kind of story that angers animal advocates to no end.

Hopefully this cat will make a full recovery and go on to have a wonderful, happy life with people who will care and love him. Something he didn't have at his prior home.

You can make a donation to help pay for his care to City Kitties Rescue, and share his story so others will help as well.

Thank you to everyone, including Diamond and the good samaritan, for doing everything you can to help him. At least we know he's in good hands now.
