The American Shorthair is one of the most popular breeds of cat in the United State and can be found in most Milwaukee homes. It is a sturdy feline with a pleasant personality.
The breed immigrated to America with the early settlers hunting rats on the Mayflower. It was one of the first five breeds of cat to be registered in 1906 by The Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) as the Domestic Shorthair the name was changed in 1966 to better describe the breed.
Males are about five pounds larger than females and can be of various coloring. It has been crossed with many breeds over the centuries, but the purebred is out of registered cats and a registered litter.
This breed is not only a working cat but is an excellent family pet and is wonderful with children. With a lifespan averaging fifteen to twenty years and only annual veterinary checkups this hearty feline will complete any family
