Paciencia Tuoyo: Since becoming a finalist to be 2013 Woman Inventor of the Year, how has your life been?
Christina Daves: I am the January finalist to be the 2013 Woman Inventor of the Year so I will be up against 11 other women for that amazing honor!
The Steve Harvey Show has provided amazing opportunity to give the product national exposure. I won the contest on November 1st and in December he ran a segment helping an audience member with a broken foot who "wanted to look sexy and fashionable over the holidays". Then, on Friday, he ran a 5 minute update segment on me and the company and showed Diana Ross in the product and he said, "If the diva Diana Ross is wearing it, you know it has to be good!" People are so thrilled to have an option to look fashionable while they are recovering. I get so many amazing e-mails from people thanking me for coming up with a product like this.
Being able to say you have been on national television and have had celebrities wear your product (Gold Medalist, Jordyn Wieber, QVC Host, Jacques Gonzales, and News Anchor, Maureen O'Boyle have all worn the accessories) gives the product credibility and gets people excited about it!
Being named the January finalist for WomenInventorz Woman of the Year Award is so exciting! They are an amazing organization supporting women inventors and being a finalist provides me opportunities to work with experts in the industry and help take this business to the next level.
With all of this national exposure I am seeing the demand for this product and am getting so many requests for other types of products. The injured really do want to look and heal their best and experience, The Healing Power of Fashion®!
Paciencia Tuoyo: Since the show, have you created new versions of Cast Medic Designs that will be debuting soon?
Christina Daves: I have an office full of prototypes for new designs for the walker boots as well as other MediFashions for slings and casts. I hope to have those in production this year.
Paciencia Tuoyo: How excited were you when you found out Diana Ross was wearing your invention, Cast Medic Designs?
Christina Daves: I have Google Alerts set so when I got up that morning there she was and I kept looking and looking at it making sure it was my design. She had on a long gown but it was sticking out and I had just met with her costume designer the night before so it had to be Castmedic! Then, my friend sent me a text because she saw the picture too and she said, "Oh my gosh! That's your flower!" I was beside myself! The diva Diana Ross was wearing something I created. That was unbelievable!
Paciencia Tuoyo: What is your favorite Cast Medic accessory?
Christina Daves: I love them all! That's why there are so many to choose from. The fur is great, especially this time of year. The Missoni inspired is one of my favorites because how can you not feel happy wearing all of those bright colors? I love that we've made it fun for kids to be able to have their friends sign their boots on a Sock-It they can keep and they can also decorate their boots in themed buttons. I love how we did everything to mix and match so there are so many different options people can put together.
