Nintendo’s official website has confirmed the release of “Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate”. This game released on this day, March 5, 2013, at a MSRP of $39.99.

“Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate” is the second entry in the “Castlevania: Lords of Shadow” franchise, which is a reboot of the “Castlevania” franchise. This reboot began with the original “Castlevania: Lords of Shadow”, which released on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in 2010. This series moves away from the side-scrolling exploration style that older “Castlevania” games used in lieu of a more action oriented adventure, similar to “God of War”. In fact, many gamers complained that the original “Lords of Shadow” was too similar to “God of War”, to the point where it almost seemed like a rip-off of “God of War”. Despite this, the original game received good reviews and sales, and is considered one of the only good 3D adventure style “Castlevania” titles.

“Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate” initially begins 25 years after the ending of the original “Lords of Shadow”. The player controls several different characters, including many that series veterans will recognize. Characters such as Simon and Trevor Belmont make appearances, and are playable. This title spans many different time periods, showing the story of Gabriel Belmont’s ancestors (he was the protagonist of “Lords of Shadow”). Abilities learned in different time periods will be passed down and expanded upon as the game progresses. The gameplay is similar to the original “Lords of Shadow”, in that combat is combo-driven, although the game is not a full 3D adventure. The game utilizes an adventure method that gamers have dubbed “2.5D”. This means that the game’s graphics and locales are 3-dimensional, but the player is only able to move left and right, like in a 2D title.
