On Feb. 28, Konami Digital Entertainlemt, Inc., announced a new playable demo for “Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of fate”. The demo is now available via download in the Nintendo eShop. The full game, due out March 5, will also be available via the eShop.
“Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate” was developed by Mercury Steam, and takes place 25 years after the events of “Lords of Shadow.” The title is a precursor to the recently announced “Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2”, which will be available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. “Mirror of Fate” tells the story of the descendants of Gabriel Belmont, Simon and Trevor, as “the battle their own destiny only to discover their true, shocking fate.”
We tried the demo for ourselves shortly after Konami’s press release. Players can only play the demo 30 times. It has shifted to side scrolling but still retains the platforming elements from console versions and the combo system used for combat and relics. The playable demo does not show how it will work with magic, and only allows players to play as Trevor. Because of this, we can’t say for sure what the differences between Trevor and Simon (and according to rumors, Alucard) will be. Overall, it feels like a 2D version of “Lords of Shadow”, and looks very promising.
“Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate” is due out on March 5, for the Nintendo 3DS.
