Speaking to Eurogamer on Feb. 28, Konami producer Dave Cox said they do not have the resources to create the necessary jobs at Mercury Steam to make porting “Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2” to the Wii U possible, due to budget constraints.
Cox went on to say the reason they are developing the title on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 is because of the amount of people they have working on it. If they want to do a Wii U port, they would need 20 more people, which they don’t have adequate resources or budget to do.
Cox made it clear to Eurogamer that there was no lack of interest for Wii U, but rather adding a new format so late in development would not be wise.
“It’s not to say we wouldn't do it,” he explained, “it’s to say at this point we don’t want to lose focus on what we’re doing.”
Even if Konami did have the resources to bring on the necessary 20 people to make a Wii U version of “Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2” possible, the office at Mercury Steam might now be large enough to accommodate the additional employees. Apparently, the office was bought for 60 people, and they currently have 110 now.
“Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2” is in development for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The 3DS title “Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate launches March 5, and a demo is now available for download through the 3DS eShop.
