She is fifth in line to the throne, but Irina Walker, 60 years old, has returned to Europe only a few times for visits. Irina is the third daughter of Michael I, Romania’s last king. A coup against the pro-Nazi government was led by King Michael in 1944. However, he was forced to abdicate the throne in 1947 after communist threatened to kill some 1,000 young Romanian prisoners – the country had fallen under communism after World War II. The royal family lived in exile more than four decades, and they still own four castles in Romania. Princess Irina, born and raised in Switzerland, married John Kreuger in 1983 in Scottsdale, Arizona. The couple divorced in 2003.
NBC News reported that 18 people in Oregon and Washington, including Princess Irina, were arrested in connection with some “10 cockfighting derbies between April, 2012 and May of this year” according to the Oregon State Attorney’s Office release.
Irina’s husband, former Sheriff Deputy John Wesley Walker, was also arrested in connection with the alleged cockfighting in the two states. According to the Oregonian, Irina Kreuger married John Walker in 2007.
The Indictment charged the 18 participants with operating an illegal gambling business and conspiracy to violate the Animal Welfare Act. The participants in a cockfight strap a knife or sharp implement to two roosters and incite them into fighting each other, which usually results in the death of one, if not both, of the roosters.
Here, the alleged cockfights, according to the indictment, took place in Irrigon, Oregon at the Walker’s Morrow County Ranch and involved a group of promoters, handlers, spectators, and food vendors. The illegal event can bring in earnings between $2,000 and $10,000 per day.
