The February 11 episode of Castle was Valentine’s Day-themed, marking Castle and Beckett’s first Valentine’s Day as a couple. They have romantic plans but of course first they have to solve a murder.
The victim was rising reality-show star almost certainly murdered by someone else from the show. Gates helps out with the case because she is a fan of the show and has useful insights. For research, Castle watches the show and gets hooked. He and Captain Gates start getting along while talking about the show. Unfortunately, Castle’s hope to get in Gates’ good graces are squashed when he accidentally slips Beckett’s Valentine’s Day present, a pair of earrings with a romantic note, into her jacket pocket instead of Beckett’s. He tries to steal it back all day before Gates discovers it, and then possibly his relationship with Beckett will be revealed. Fortunately, when Gates finds it, the note did not mention Kate’s name and Gates takes it as an attempt from Castle to win her over. Beckett’s present to Castle is a drawer at her place for him to keep some things.
More surprising than Castle and Beckett’s Valentine’s Day plans are Esposito’s: a date with Lanie. It looks like the two may be getting back together finally, though no more was revealed of the rekindled romance in this episode.
Next week’s episode is a must-see. The preview shows that Alexis is abducted and Castle and Beckett race to save her. A possible speculation on Alexis’ abduction is that it could be someone seeking revenge against Castle. Castle has stuck by Beckett on her mission to bring down her mother’s killer, but there has never been a more personal case for Castle directly. Tune into next week’s episode to find out who abducted Alexis and why!
