September 24, 2013

You may not think the majority of New Yorkers are living like royalty, but perhaps you haven’t seen this story. BuzzFeed offers six examples of castles that cost less than an apartment in New York City – and your jaw will drop when you see what that money can (or can’t, depending on where you live) buy.

Take, for example, the $1,621,200 castle that features almost 14,000 square feet (yes, that’s three zeroes), six bedrooms and 24 acres of land. It overlooks the gorgeous Midi-Pyrenees area of southern France and features towers, wings and an elevator.

Now let’s see what that cash will buy in the Big Apple. For $1,650,000, you get a one-bed, one-and-a-half-bath apartment on East 30th Street – 1200 square feet located conveniently near, as the story points out, nowhere.

Read on for the rest. Get your hankies out while you’re at it!
