Ryan and Esposito check out a building that may be next on a serial arsonist’s hit list, and the guys end up trapped inside the building due to an explosion, which causes a major fire. To make things even more dramatic, Jenny is also supposed to be giving birth any minute now. It is great to have an episode that features more of Ryan and Esposito. They are always great comedic relief, and in this episode, the writers feature a more serious side to them. Their partnership is highlighted in a great way. Did you enjoy the Rysposito focus?

The case of the episode takes a backseat to Ryan and Esposito being trapped in the house. This is a good thing because sometimes procedurals will feature a key player or two in a dangerous situation, but then the writers don’t show any of it. Within five minutes or so, the danger is over. It is nice to see the writers take their time with the fire. They show a lot of what is happening right outside the warehouse, and also what is going on back at the precinct. The writers show multiple angles on this situation. This causes the intensity and thriller aspect of the situation to really come through. Did anyone else enjoy watching Gates take charge back at the precinct? To me, that was a great scene, and it is nice to see more of Gates.
