This is a great episode for Alexis and Castle. Anytime they have moments together, it is typically short scenes that bookend an episode. This time, however, they spend an entire episode together. There aren’t any obvious bonding scenes, which is great because then it would have felt like the writers were trying a little too hard. Plus, considering how upset Alexis is at her father, having them engage in small check and taking trips down memory lane wouldn’t fit. Instead, they focus their attentions of the case, and end up bonding because of it. Did you enjoy seeing Castle and Alexis work together?
Beckett and her team basically are there to help Alexis and Castle out whenever they need it, so they pop up from time to time. The main thing on Beckett’s mind is her relationship with Alexis because Alexis goes to everyone else but her for help on the case. There are two great things about this. One is that it allows the writers to include a conversation between Lanie and Beckett. There haven’t been too many of those recently, and they have been missed. Another is that this allows Beckett and Alexis to have a moment. As Beckett says, soon she and Castle will be a family, and Beckett and Alexis haven’t really had a lot of bonding moments. Here are quick thoughts on elsewhere in the episode. Alexis has definitely learned a thing or two from her father. It’s never been mentioned what she is focusing on in college. She is interested in the crime solving world, that’s for she. Alexis interned with Lanie awhile back, and now she is working with her criminology professor. It’s great to see her take the reins on an investigation because it allows viewers to see a different side of her. The case is interesting. It’s a nice change of pace. What’s annoying is that there is a whodunit fake out with ten minutes to spare. It would have been a really interesting episode if the truth was that Frank’s brother did it, and that Frank ended up dying to protect his brother. Having Alexis deal with that would have been something new and challenging for her. What did you think of the episode?
