Castle: “She sounded so scared. I could hear it in her voice just like when she was a little girl. There was nothing I could do.”
“Hunt” is the newest episode of Castle. Beware this article contains spoilers. To review the last case file, click here. Be sure to check out the slideshow for more quotes from the episode. Castle returns in three weeks on ABC (KTRK).
Castle takes off to Paris after the kidnappers only release Sara and not Alexis. This is a very Castle thing to do, and it’s great that the writers acknowledge that this is very close to the plot of Taken. At first it’s hard to follow exactly who all Castle is meeting with. He meets with some interesting characters. It’s nice that they aren’t all completely menacing. They are quirky and very talented. Now the big twist of the episode is that Castle’s dad appears. Well it would have been a bigger twist if the promo of the episode didn’t practically give it away. Did you enjoy all the characters Castle met in prison? Who is your favorite?
There’s a lot of spy craft in this episode, and the viewers, like Castle, are playing catch up most of the time. What’s a little strange is how quickly it’s revealed who has kidnapped Alexis. No one has any theories, but Hunt (Castle’s dad) just comes out and states who it is. The writers could have shown snippets of Alexis being held prior to this, to tease this a little bit. Castle and Hunt’s reunion is pretty well done. Clearly the writers can’t reveal too much, but they do a good job of mentioning what Martha talks about him as well as how he has kept tabs on Castle all these years. The writers don’t really have him talking too much about Alexis though, and it would have been nice to hear Hunt talk about her. What’s your opinion on Castle’s dad?
Beckett, Ryan, and Esposito are still working the case back in the NYPD, but from a slightly different angle. They decide to focus on solving Roger Henson’s murder, thinking it will lead them to the kidnappers. On the one hand, it’s great to see a different angle of the case, but with everything that is going on in Paris, it would have been better to focus more on Castle. The writers should have cut down some of the NYPD scenes in order to be able to expand on Castle’s complicated adventure in Paris. The biggest thing that Beckett’s investigation reveals is that Alexis was actually the target, but the writers could have revealed this through Hunt. What did you think, did you want to see less NYPD and more Paris?
