According to Variety, Liam Neeson has joined the cast of Universal’s Battleship, the Hasbro game that will be directed by Peter Berg.
Neeson joins Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skasgard, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna, and Hamish Linklater.
Neeson will play Admiral Shane, Ktisch will play a Naval officer and Shane’s future-son-in-law. Decker will play Shane’s daughter and Skarsgard will play the brother to Kitsch’s character.
The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision is reporting that Michael Caine has joined the cast of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. Caine will join Dwayne Johnson and Josh Hutcherson, who will reprise his character as Sean Anderson from the first film. Caine will play his grandfather who is missing. Sean will join his mother’s boyfriend to search for him, and although it starts out with a character absence, Heat Vision reports that he will have a great deal of screen time.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is set to begin production in Hawaii and North Carolina.
The Hollywood Reporter is also reporting that Natalie Portman has been offered the lead role in Alfonso Cuaron’s 3D space thriller Gravity. Should Portman accept the role she would replace Angelina Jolie who dropped out a little over a week ago. Robert Downey Jr. is already attached to star in a supporting role.
With a budget of $80 million, the film focuses on a female astronaut set over to make repairs on the Hubble Telescope. She becomes the sole survivor when space debris hits her transport and will have to find a way back home. With such a lead part like that Cuaron is looking a strong female lead who can fit that, and with Portman getting rave reviews for her role in Black Swan, she clearly fits is. Portman has yet to read the scipt.

I love Natalie Portman, but I certainly do not see her as a female astronaut. I would choose Jennifer Connelly, a little more age appropriate and a better dramatic actress.
