On Saturday, December 7 Comingsoon.net posted the news that a casting call was released for the upcoming television series "Gotham," for the character of a young Bruce Wayne. Television network FOX has made a series commitment to the show, which will follow the life of a young Detective James Gordon and focus on part of Batman's story that is central to his creation. The series is expected to air in late 2014. The casting call description is listed below:
"A 10-year-old Bruce Wayne is among the roles that are now being cast as series regulars on the upcoming Fox TV series "Gotham" which explores the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham City famous."
The show has been in development since the release of "The Dark Knight Rises," the final film in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. The role of Gordon in the film series was portrayed by actor Gary Oldman. The series was created by Bruno Heller of Primrose Hill Productions and is also being produced by Bonanza Productions, a subsidiary of Warner Bros.
No other roles on the series have been cast but the show will be filmed in and around Los Angeles. The series will take place in the Batman world immediately after the double murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne, and serve as an origin story for Gordon. The series is also based on the DC Comics stories and characters, but will not follow the comics and set up it's own story.
The pilot episode of the series will begin shooting in March 2014 and the show has received a full order which is scheduled to begin airing in late 2014. It's possible that popular villains will show up in Gotham City as well, to help establish history and timeline for the characters. The series will explore the past of a popular character that has not previously been told.
