The Tampa Yankees were back at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Friday night for the first game of the three game series against the Lakeland Flying Tigers. Jairo Heredia (ERA 2.22) took the start for the T-Yanks in the opening game of the series.
After the Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st, the T-Yanks were able to answer back with a run of their own as Taylor Dugas scored off a single by Cody Grice. Cito Culver helped the T-Yanks take the lead as he scored off a single by Robert Refsnyder.
The Yanks seemed to never look back as Ali Castillo hit a single on a ground ball to left field to give Tampa a 3-1 lead in the 4th inning.
Heredia pitched a solid 6 innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 run; striking out 4. Ben Paullus then took over as the T-Yanks were able to take a 7-1 lead. Paullus pitched 2 innings allowing just 1 hit and Taylor Garrison (ERA 2.23) wrapped up the 9th with a hitless inning.
Heredia earns the win (2-1) as the Tampa Yankees improve to (51-68).
The Tampa Yankees have a double header on Saturday at Joker Merchant Stadium at 4:00pm. The first game will be a continuation of the July 4th game and thirty minutes later will be the already scheduled game. The Tampa Yankees will then return home on Sunday afternoon for the final game of the series against the Flying Tigers at 1:00pm.
