You can’t live in LA and not be aware that the Academy Awards are this coming weekend. If you are planning on watching the Oscars at a gathering with friends—but don’t want to feel guilty while watching all the beautifully fit stars—put away the fat-laden party food and try munching on some healthy artichoke dip. California Chef’s Healthy Artichoke Dip has about a quarter of the calories and fat of your typical artichoke dip but still tastes delicious on fresh vegetables and/or baked corn or pita chips.

Healthy Artichoke Dip

1 cup artichoke hearts, canned in water, drained

½ cup grated parmesan cheese

2 cups fat-free cream cheese

2 teaspoons garlic powder

Combine all ingredients in a food processor and process until mixture reaches desired consistency.

Best of all, this is not only called Healthy Artichoke Dip because it’s low in calories, but also because eating artichokes has lots of health benefits, including:

  1. 1. Artichokes are high in the antioxidants quercertin, rutin, anthocyanins, cynarin, luteolin, and silymarin.
  2. 2. Artichokes are good for the liver, and studies have shown that they may even regenerate liver tissue.
  3. 3. Artichokes are a natural diuretic and help the digestive process.
  4. 4. If you are planning on drinking any alcohol during the festivities, you may want to make some extra dip for the next morning. Some people swear that artichokes cure a hangover.
