Cast of ABC reality show Splash includes former Lakers great Kareem Abdul Jabbar

Reality TV fans are gearing up for a new show that is about to make a big splash - literally.

Splash is a new ABC reality show that debuts on Tuesday, March 19 (8 p.m. Eastern/ 7 p.m. Central). In this show "10 celebrities will train and compete in regulation platform and springboard diving at dizzying heights in front of a weekly poolside audience," according to ABC's Splash reality show website.

The ten contestants includes a who's who of current and retired pro athletes, celebrities and entertainers. Included is former Los Angeles Lakers great Kareem Abdul Jabbar, the NBA's all-time leading scorer. Abdul Jabbar teamed with Magic Johnson, James Worthy and many other Lakers greats to form the most dominant NBA team of the 1980’s. Abdul Jabbar’s legendary skyhook was almost unstoppable during his Hall of Fame career. Abdul Jabbar also played on the greatest college basketball team ever under the great John Wooden. He was then known as Lew Alcindor and helped lead the UCLA Bruins to three NCAA championships in the 1970's and is still the only player in the 75-year history of the NCAA men's basketball tournament to be named MVP three years in a row.

Abdul Jabbar’s Post NBA Career
Abdul Jabbar has been busy in his post-NBA career and has since been involved in many charitable causes. According to his bio info on ABC’s Splash site "in 2012, Kareem was named a US Cultural Ambassador by Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton and has been named California's STEM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) Afterschool Ambassador. Abdul-Jabbar has also been honored by the NBA with his own 16' tall bronze statue at Staples Center, Los Angeles memorializing his contributions to the city and his team with his signature skyhook. Having been diagnosed with Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukemia (Ph+ CML) in 2008, Kareem has also become a passionate cancer advocate, speaking across the country to others about his cancer journey. Abdul Jabbar is currently writing three new children's books for Disney's Hyperion, which are based on a basketball street gang and will publish later this year. He is a regular contributing columnist for ESPN.com and The Huffington Post.

It will be interesting to watch the Lakers legend dive from 31-feet off a platform diving board The long, wiry Abdul Jabbar still appears to be in great physical condition. Will he make a splash? How will he do in this new reality competition? The Splash cast includes a number of intriguing personalities, among them Katherine Webb, the Alabama model who has been on a whirlwind ascension in popularity and fame in recent months. Others are sure to be intrigued to see how comedian Louie Anderson or other popular personalities like Drake Bell, Nicole Eggert and Ndamukong Suh.
