Cast members show support for 'Glee' star Cory Monteith on Twitter

Wetpaint reported on Monday, April 1 that "Glee" star Cory Monteith received many tweets of support from fellow cast members and friends on his decision to enter rehab for substance abuse. The Canadian actor, 30, has previously struggled with drugs and will miss filming the final two episodes of season four of the hit FOX comedy show. The absence of his character will be explained on the show.

Monteith portrays sensitive jock Finn Hudson on the series, and his real-life girlfriend and co-star Lea Michele also publicly gave her support for Monteith's decision. Show creator Ryan Murphy tweeted, "I am so proud of Cory Monteith and love and support him 100%" while excutive producer Brad Falchuk claimed the actor "is like a son to me."

Harry Shum Jr. (Mike), Kevin McHale (Artie), Amber Riley (Mercedes), and Chris Colfer (Kurt) all conveyed tweets of support for their co-star, calling him a "hero" and being "so proud" of the decision.

Dot Marie Jones, who plays football coach Shannon Beiste, tweeted "@CoryMonteith Sweetest man so proud of you taking care of you. We are and will always be here for you. I love you always, stay strong. U never know what someone is dealing with in their personal life, don't pass judgment and love and support it's what i believe it [sic] what I do."

Monteith voluntarily entered treatment and is receiving praise from friends for recognizing treatment was needed instead of being involved in an incident or being forced to attend. The rehab facility has not been disclosed. The actor began drinking and taking drugs as a young teenager as well as participating in petty crimes. Monteith entered treatment for substance addiction when he was nineteen after a family intervention.
