In the promo, Robert Kirkman talks about how through the end of season 4, the show has been about the character’s struggles to remain true to their humanity. Some characters have fared better than others. With all Tyreese has been through, he is still pretty in touch with who he is. Carol, on the other hand, has gone a down a dark oath.

Executive producer Greg Nicotero agrees and says what we saw in season 4 was things going full circle and many of the characters realizing you can never go back to who you were before. Andrew Lincoln concurs.

While you can’t go back, Danai Gurira says you can always evolve and who any of them becomes next season is wide open.

In describing who Rick Grimes will become in season 5, Nicotero says:

“We’re going to see a completely different Rick Grimes in s season 5, one who is just willing to do anything and would never question any motive or decision. He just goes into it head first.”

Lincoln said, “We’ve got a reunion and we know how brutal and extraordinarily rough this group are.” He said season 5 will be messy, brutal and thrilling.

Lauren Cohen said there is no way it’s not going to be an explosive beginning to season 5.

Executive producer Dave Alpert says the group will have to find a way to rebuild and regroup and just what dynamic the group will have going forward is anybody’s guess. The group is battle-hardened and ready for anything.

Let the games begin…

Season 5 of “The Walking Dead” will air in October 2014.
