Cast a flame on the second day of Yule

Dark Blessings.

On this second night of Yule, we take hold and cherish our Self with the first candle, and what we have with the second candle. These are the material possessions in our lives. It encompasses what we hold dear to us.

Those who light the flames this night should count themselves among the Blessed for whatever they may have. Whether great or small, one should be grateful. The coat on one's back, the shoes on the feet, the hat on the head, all are blessings. There are those who have none of these. Gratefulness should be a part of everyday life, yet on this day the things that make up our circle of possessions.

Many Traditions that can be observed with the dominant culture here can be readily supplied with the material trappings this time of year. Christian good cheer, and Pagan good cheer, and materialism are really an integral part of Yule. As so well observed in "Yule be grateful this solstice season", by 1minionsopinion,

"Many habits Christians attribute to Christmas celebration came out of pagan devotions to Yule, too – the greenery, holly, candles, gift giving. All of that has its roots in solstice events, including the 12 days of Yule, the number of days the Yule log burns – from the 21st to New Year’s day"

For adults, the mere ability to access a medium in which to read these words is something we take for granted. We should count this as well. Also, the pennies in the pocket or the plate of ramen are no less miracles than to possess gold and silver.

This could be pondered while singing the song "Silver Cups" by Kyrja Copyright 2007. The lyrics

"Silver cups, golden blades,
Cauldron boils, fire's laid,
It's time to celebrate Solstice.

Silver cups, golden blades,
Cauldron boils, fire's laid,
It's Solstice time once again"

are very beautiful when one considers the correspondence between the Lady's Silver and the Lord's Gold. These physical things are only physical representations of the divinity on Earth.

This is a wonderful time to place things on the Yule altar that would be representative of what you are grateful for and what you would wish for your loved ones.

Blessed Be
