Earlier today, anime publisher Sentai Filmworks announced plans to release the anime classic "Casshan" on DVD and Blu-ray sometime next year.
The 35-episode science fiction series was produced by Tatsunoko Productions and is created by Tatsuo Yoshida (Speed Racer), with series composition by Takao Koyama (Slayers). The anime features music from Shunsuke Kikuchi (Getter Robo) and character designs by Tatsuo Yoshida and Yoshitaka Amano, who you may recognize from his work on the "Final Fantasy" series of games from Square Enix.
"Casshan" follows the adventures of Tetsuya Azuma, the son of the scientist responsible for creating Buraiking, an android that turns the robots of Earth against their human creators. Tetsuya transfers his consciousness into an android body to become the robot warrior Casshan, and alongside his robot dog Flender and the wielder of the most robot-lethal gun in the world, Luna Uetsuki, he begins a journey to clear his father’s name, avenge his mother’s death and save the planet from Buraiking.
Sentai Filmworks will release "Casshan" on subtitled DVD and Blu-ray in 2014, no official release date has been given at this time. The anime will also be available through select digital outlets soon.
