General Hospital” actor Ryan Paevey has come along way since he first joined the soap as hunky detective Nathan West. Not only has his character formed a bond with Maxie (Kirsten Storms), he has discovered new family connections that has made the character more interesting. In an interview with published Tuesday, Paevey talks about Nathan’s new family connections and what’s ahead for the character.

In the interview, Paevey talks about his Daytime Emmy Awards red carpet controversy and the popularity of his character. As Paevey has evolved as an actor, so has the character of Nathan with viewers. He first appeared as a detective seeking revenge against Silas Clay (Michael Easton). Overtime his character became a bit annoying with his obsession, but a few wrinkles in the storyline created more depth emotionally for the character of Nathan.

Not only did he find out his mother Madeline (Donna Mills) was really his aunt, he found out that his real mother is the crazy Dr. Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) and his real sister is Dr. Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebauld). Not only did he have to deal with that revelation, he also recently found out that the woman he thought was his sister, Nina Clay (Michelle Stafford), is really alive. Paevey told that those revelations have changed how Nathan views the world.

“His understanding and definition of his world – everything has been changed. His understanding and definition of his world – everything is different. People are lying to him…I think it’s going to be difficult for him to trust people, it’s going to bring some walls up a little bit. I think there’s also just that element of being dumbfounded.”

Nathan has other things going on in his life besides his crazy family. He is building a relationship with Maxie, but the highly annoying Levi (Zachary Garred) is in the way. Paevey says in the interview that he has no idea what will happen, but he thinks a relationship between Maxie and Nathan will happen eventually. Nathan’s intuition about Levi is part of what has made Nathan a character worth rooting for. And of course his family connection has made him more interesting.

Besides being related so some pretty crazy and unpredictable women, Paevey gives a little insight as to who his father may be. He says in the interview, “I think we’ll meet him. If I had to venture a guess, I would probably have to say that he’s going to be a Cassadine.” This seems to be the direction the show is going and if it ends up being the case, Nathan will be the link between two pretty crazy families. Let’s hope there is not a dark side to the handsome detection. But, then again, some fans may be rooting for that possibility. The complete interview with can be viewed here.
