Austinites looking for the thrill of casino gambling have another reason to head north to the WinStar World Casino and Resort. Famous for having more games than any other casino in the world, WinStar is straight up Interstate 35 and just north of the Texas/Oklahoma border, the resort opened a third tower of hotel rooms this summer, bringing the room total to 1,400. On a good day, the drive to WinStar from Austin is less than five hours.

The casino and resort facility boasts nearly 8,000 electronic games, 125 table games, and a large concert and event center. The newly open 15-story tower increased the capacity by 500 rooms and also upped the ante on luxury, with nicely appointed rooms on par with or better than the other drive-to casinos accessible from Austin.

“The goal of the hotel and pool expansion is to create a full, memorable WinStar experience for our guests,” said Wayne McCormick, WinStar World Casino and Resort general manager. “The new hotel falls in line with our commitment to exemplary customer service as well as expanding the tourism opportunities in south-central Oklahoma.”

The hotel's original tower opened in 2009. The resort upgraded just last year with a second tower, a resort-style 154,000 gallon swimming pool with private cabanas and a pool bar, and a new restaurant. Other highlights of the casino resort include a variety of restaurants and bars, Mist Nightclub, nearby golf course and more.

The staff at WinStar goes out of their way to help ensure guests have a great time. The crowd is a mix of locals, day-tripping Oklahomans and weekenders from across Texas, including nearby Fort Worth and Dallas, plus as far away as Houston, Austin and San Antonio.
