The local business that will be mobbed is kept a secret until the evening of the event. "Mobbers" are asked to meet at the Johnson County courthouse lawn, 5 E. Jefferson Street, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, bringing $20 in cash with them. At that time, the secret location will be revealed and the "mob" will head to the local business prepared to spend their cash.
This event was created as a way to help local businesses and boost the local economy. Previous businesses that have been “mobbed” include Imagination Station, Middle Davids Candles and MW Wadworth’s Fine Chocolates.
Discover Downtown Franklin began this event as a way to help local businesses and boost the local economy. The first event was in March 2013 at Imagination Station.
"As you know, Imagination Station has been struggling since the road improvement project began a year ago on North Main Street," said Hart. "The store saw a $2,000 increase in sales compared to two Saturdays around this period in 2012."
The store had 90 transactions with an average purchase of $35.
This weekend's business to be mobbed is already decided, and the store is ready for the mob. Offering local businesses an opportunity to boost their sales in tough economic times makes the event rewarding for participants as well as the organization.
"These events are one of my favorite things that DDF does," said Hart. "They truly help the downtown businesses by providing sales and awareness. I have greatly enjoyed seeing other downtown business owners participate in the event, making purchases and supporting their downtown neighbors."
Two $25.00 gift cards will be raffled off during the evening.
The event is sponsored by Mutual Savings Bank. For more information on the event, contact Kim Childers through Discover Downtown Franklin at (317) 346-1258.
