Radio legend Casey Kasem, 81, is reported to be in poor health as he deteriorates from Parkinson's disease. Some of his relatives and friends held a protest outside his Holmby Hills estate Tuesday, claiming they are being kept from seeing Casey by his wife Jean Kasem, according to KABC on Oct. 2.
His three kids from his first marriage haven't seen him for months, his brother hasn't seen him for a year, and some of his friends haven't seen him for even longer. They all point to Kasem's wife, Jean, as the reason why.
Apparently Jean blocks all of their phone calls, and daughter Kerry Casem claims Jean won't answer the door when they show up at the house and try to see their dad.
On Tuesday, the group of family, friends and even Casey's longtime former personal assistant Gonzalo Venecia, held a protest at the Kasem estate in Holmby Hills and shot their own video footage to document their attempts to see Casey.
"He can't really speak, but he knows we're there", Kerry said. The last time the kids saw him, he had very hard time walking. It was evident he was deteriorating due to Parkinson's disease.
The legendary DJ hosted America's Top 40 for decades. His children from his first marriage, Kerri, Julie and Mike, just want to visit their father, but Jean won't let them, according to TMZ.
Casey's children and brother say they don't have a relationship with Jean Kasem, who played Loretta Tortelli on TV's "Cheers" and on her own spin-off series.
Brother Mouner Kasem says he hasn't talked to Jean in 33 years. The group fears that he's been isolated and neglected. Mouner said he's afraid he may never get to see his brother again before he dies.
Chuck Olsen, a 63-year friend of Casey's, says no one has been in touch with Casey since April. He went to school with Casey and even acted with him on the radio in "The Lone Ranger".
Both Kerri Kasem and her uncle say this is not about money. The kids have all been left out of Casey's will and they've known that for a long time. Kerry says they were raised well and they all support themselves.
She says they just want to see their dad, and they can't. She wants Casey to know that they love him and haven't abandoned him.
Efforts to reach Jean Kasem on Tuesday were unsuccessful.
