Casey Anthony is set to give a sworn deposition in the case Zenaida Gonzalez vs. Casey Anthony in October 2013. Gonzalez is suing Anthony for defamation due to lies she told in 2008 regarding the disappearance of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee. Casey Anthony lived at her parents George and Cindy Anthony’s house with her daughter until June 16, 2008, when she suddenly moved out, taking her daughter Caylee with her. No one saw Caylee Anthony after June 16, 2008, and the exact nature of her death has never been revealed. As Casey Anthony’s parents grew concerned over their daughter’s and granddaughter’s well-being, they began to grow suspicious regarding the events that occurred throughout June and July 2008.
On July 15, 2008, Cindy Anthony located her daughter at her boyfriend’s house in Orlando, Florida, but Caylee was not with her. Upon further questioning, Casey Anthony stated her daughter had been kidnapped by her nanny Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez and that she had spent a month looking for her.
Once Cindy Anthony learned of her granddaughter’s disappearance, she called 911. On Dec. 11, 2008, Caylee Anthony’s skeletonized remains were located in a wooded area approximately 1 mile from the Anthony family home. Due to the deterioration of her remains, Caylee Anthony’s cause of death was never learned.
Casey Anthony was charged in October 2008, with murder in the first degree, aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter of a child, and four counts of providing false information to police. Even though authorities didn’t have Caylee’s body, they felt the circumstances of Caylee’s disappearance and Casey Anthony’s behavior during and after her daughter’s disappearance indicated her guilt. While many people believed that Casey Anthony had killed her child, a growing number of people were accusing Zenaida Gonzalez as being Caylee’s abductor. Zenaida Gonzalez is suing Casey Anthony because she says she was unable to find work, people accused her of having done something untoward to Caylee Anthony and her life became so disrupted, she went into hiding. Zenaida Gonzalez’ case against Anthony took a twist when Jose Baez presented his defense for Anthony during her trial that started on May 24, 2011. During the defenses’ opening statements, Casey Anthony’s attorney Jose Baez announced that his client had been the victim of sexual abuse and that Caylee Anthony drowned in her family swimming pool on June 16, 2008.
Since Casey Anthony’s defense claimed that Caylee had drowned, it shows that her statements regarding the fictitious nanny “Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez” were made with bad intent.
What do you think about the upcoming civil trial? It isn’t the only trial Casey Anthony is facing. She is also being sued by meter reader Roy Kronk and Texas Equusearch, the missing person’s non-profit organization that spent resources searching for Caylee when Casey Anthony’s defense was that her daughter was already dead. Do you think the civil trials will be productive and provide some justice for the death of Caylee Anthony?
