Zenaida Gonzalez wants the right to questing Casey Anthony about her finances at a Chapter 7 bankruptcy hearing, but Anthony’s attorneys are fighting that request, claiming that Gonzalez and her lawyers already had the opportunity question Casey about her finances and should not be granted a second one, The Orlando Sentinel reported on Friday, March 15.
Found not guilty of murdering her daughter Caylee Anthony, Casey Anthony was in hiding until she had to appear at a Chapter 7 bankruptcy hearing in February. In her Jan. 25 bankruptcy filing, Anthony listed any settlement Gonzalez may receive in a defamation civil suit as one of her liabilities.
Zenaida Gonzalez’s legal team filed a request to U.S. Bankruptcy Judge K. Rodney May for an examination of Anthony to find out more about the accused child killer’s finances. Gonzalez’s legal team argues that creditors “have an interest in discovering the full extent of [Anthony’s] income and prospects for future income."
At a creditors meeting earlier in March, Anthony testified through her lawyers that she had received money and gifts from unidentified “well-wishers.” Casey Anthony also declined to identify who has supported her day-to-day needs. Anthony testified that she lives “for free,” paying no rent or utilities, “thanks to the kindness of unnamed friends.”
Zenaida Gonzalez is suing Casey Anthony for defamation of character because Anthony claimed a nanny with a similar name had kidnapped her daughter Caylee in 2008. Anthony was charged in the death of her daughter, but acquitted in 2011.
