CASA Paulding meets with local legislators

In local news, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Paulding participated in the annual JUST Georgia/CASA Day at the Capitol on Tuesday morning along with local legislators.

The National CASA Association is a network of programs that train volunteers to represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in the courtroom and other settings.

Staff and volunteers from CASA Paulding met with local legislators, State Representative Paulette Braddock (R-17), and State Representative Howard Maxwell (R-19), to seek their support of CASA and to discuss issues surrounding child welfare and getting support from the Georgia Legislators at the capitol.

CASA recruits volunteer’s every day for the support and well-being of abused or neglected children.

Part of the CASA mission statement is to “support and promote court-appointed volunteer advocacy so that every abused or neglected child can be safe, establish permanence and have the opportunity to thrive.”

CASA Paulding County currently has over 45 volunteers and serves more than 150 children. In 2013, they served 267 children. Their volunteers gave almost 2000 hour of service and drove over 11,500 miles to serve these children in Paulding County.

CASA Paulding announced on their website that volunteer training would begin on February 10, 2014 until March 19, 2014 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm and will be held on Mondays and Wednesday evenings.
