According to TSN on Wednesday, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Jeff Carter of London, Ontario registered a hat trick as the Los Angeles Kings defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 6-2 in game two of the Western Conference Final. Carter, who won a gold medal for Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, also added an assist for a four point night.

With the victory, the Kings tie the best out of seven series with the Blackhawks at one game apiece. The Kings now improve their 2014 playoff record to nine wins and seven losses.

Carter generated all four of his points in the third period. He was the catalyst of the Kings' comeback that saw Los Angeles trail 2-0 late in the second period.

Carter scored his first goal at 1:37 of the third period on a deflection from a slap shot by fellow Canadian Olympic gold medalist and Kings teammate Drew Doughty also from London, Ontario. Carter's goal came on the power play with Slava Voynov picking up the other assist. This goal tied the game at two goals apiece.

Carter then assisted on a goal from Tyler Toffoli at 8:59 of the third period that put the Kings up 4-2. Then Carter scored the Kings' last two goals on Wednesday--the first at 14:44 of the third period from Tanner Pearson and Matt Greene on an odd man rush that put the Kings up 5-2. Then Carter scored in an empty net with 3:31 left in regulation to put the Kings up by four goals.

Carter now has seven goals and nine assists for 16 points in the postseason. This was the second playoff hat trick of his career. The first came on May 15, 2012 in a 4-0 win over the Phoenix Coyotes in game two of the Western Conference Final.

The Kings will now host the Blackhawks in game three of the Western Final on Saturday (6 pm MT). The game can be seen on CBC in Canada and NBC in the United States.
