The Carrollton-Farmers Branch school district dropped from "recognized" to "academically acceptable."
The TAKS scores were good for the most part. And, thanks to some tweaks to the definition of "passing" by the state, most of the individual campuses were rated "recognized" or "exemplary."
The aspect that dropped the district as a whole is that this is the first year that the ratings also included completion rates.
The completion rate of all students was 91.1%, but the problem lies in the completion rate of the Hispanic population which dropped 83.6% from 85.3% just a year ago.
To receive a higher rating, the graduation rate must be 85% across all subgroups.
The district is filing an appeal based on all the other aspects of the rating being higher than "academically acceptable."
