Carrie Underwood is a country music favorite loved by millions, but right now she is receiving a lot of hate.
The former American Idol winner is a seasoned performer, but when she received the role of “Maria” in The Sound of Music Live, it caused many people to cringe stating she has no acting skills for such a role.
Descendants of the von Trapp family were very vocal in expressing their disappointment concerning the choice of Underwood.
“Here’s someone who just won an Oscar for a similar situation [in Les Miserables]. She was able to act and sing.”
When people think of The Sound of Music, they picture Julie Andrews in the iconic lead role.
Even a seasoned actress would be overwhelmed with following in such legendary footsteps.
A Broadway star or veteran actress may have given an award-winning performance, but what about also obtaining what must have been a massive sponsorship by Walmart? Probably not.
Underwood took all of the criticism in stride. What did she have to say to her haters?
"Plain and simple: Mean people need Jesus," Underwood tweeted Friday. "They will be in my prayers tonight ... 1 Peter 2:1-25."
