Carrie Underwood got quite a holiday gift this year. It has just been announced that the country music superstar has gotten engaged to Ottawa Senators centre Mike Fisher.
Underwood's represenative confirmed the engagement today as reported by Access Hollywood. "I'm happy to confirm Carrie Underwood is engaged to Mike Fisher, and the couple couldn't be happier".
Fisher, 29, proposed to Underwood, 26, at his home Sunday afternoon among his closest family and friends.
Underwood and Fisher have been dating just a little over a year after being introduced to one another by one of Underwood's band members.
News of their engagement was twittered and picked up by online media throughout the day Sunday after Fisher announced the exciting news to many of his friends, according to a family friend.
Underwood recently discussed her relationship with Fisher to ABC News's Robin Roberts in a prime time CMA special with the four-time Grammy winner. She also thanks Fisher on the liner notes of her latest album Play On, referring to him by his jersey number, she says; “Thank you #12. You are the most amazing addition to my life. I thank god for you every day..xoxo Carrie. “
Carrie Underwood has had a quite a year with taking the ACM 'Entertainer of the Year' title, having her third album debut at the #1 spot on the Billboard Music Charts and having the fastest chart-topper of the year by a female country artist with the album's first single “Cowboy Casanova”.
Now she can add getting engaged to her shining moments of 2009. Congratulations Carrie!
