Carrie Underwood has kicked off the new decade with quite a bang! She won a People's Choice Award last month for 'Favorite Country Artist' and just picked up her fifth Grammy for 'Best Country Collaboration(with Randy Travis) for their #1 song, “I Told You So”. Now Variety reports Underwood will be taking her talent to the big screen in a role in the upcoming film “Soul Surfer”.
The independent drama is based on the true story of Bethany Hamilton, the teenage surfing champ who survived a shark attack at 13 that left her with one arm. The film will focus on Hamilton's courage to go against all odds and still continue to compete and win professional championships after losing one of her arm's.
Underwood will play the role of a church youth leader. The film will also star Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt, and AnnaSophia Rob, who will portray Hamilton's story.
Underwood's fans can see their idol on the big screen when the film hits theaters later this year.
