NASHVILLE, Tenn., April 7, 2013 - Country superstar Carrie Underwood took to the red carpet of the 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards in a gorgeous floor-length black gown. Shania Twain and Faith Hill also posed for a handful of photos alongside Underwood, as if the old guard was passing the torch to the new face of the genre.
Underwood, a three-time ACM Female Vocalist of the Year, is up again for two of the night's biggest honors, including Album of the Year for her platinum-selling Blown Away record. Having already spawned three No. 1 singles ("Good Girl," "Blown Away" and "Two Black Cadillacs"), the album is leading the category which also includes Taylor Swift's quadruple-platinum album Red. Rounding out the prestigious category are Eric Church (Chief), Luke Bryan (Tailgates and Tanlines) and Little Big Town (Tornado).
Heading into the evening, Underwood admits that she's not expecting to walk away with any trophies. "I'm not expecting to win anything," she tells 99.5 XTU. "I guess you get a little more, like, you know a little more about how it's all going to go down."
She adds, "It's still so exciting, and it's still so much fun, but you know a little more, you feel more comfortable."
But fans are excited to know that the 30-year-old songstress will be performing her deliciously dark tale "Two Black Cadillacs." Underwood hinted during recent media rounds in Las Vegas that she plans to do "something different" with the performance, including adding sound effects and props to the stage. "We do 'Two Black Cadillacs,' and, you know, I've performed it a million times and being on tour and everything," she tells ACM Country. "So, we're like 'what can we do to kind of step it up a notch and make it look and sound different?'"
She continues, "So, we added some sound effects and added some props on stage."
"We may all have carbon monoxide poisoning now," she smirks. "I don't know. Wink, wink. There's a hint. Yea, it's cool. Lots of ground fog too. Where am I walking? What am I gonna step on?"
The 2013 ACM Awards kick off live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena at 8 p.m. EST. Co-hosted by Bryan and Blake Shelton, the three-hour event will be broadcast on CBS. Check your local listings.
