On Sept. 24, NBC revealed on Medianet that Carrie Underwood and her husband, NHL star Mike Fisher, will be featured in an upcoming TV special titled “Power Players: Sports’ Hottest Couples.” It will detail how Underwood and Fisher deal with the constant media glare, especially since Fisher was drafted from his Canadian team to play on his wife’s hometown team, the Nashville Predators.
Country superstar Carrie Underwood is one of the biggest stars ever to spring from "American Idol." She competed and won during season four, and her success skyrocketed immediately afterward. In addition to her 11 American Country Awards, Underwood has also won five Grammy Awards, 16 Billboard Music Awards, 11 Academy of Country Music Awards, seven BMI Awards and one Golden Globe nomination. According to “Time,” Carrie Underwood is the most successful “American Idol” winner, followed by Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtrey, Jordin Sparks and David Cook.
On Sept. 22, Underwood performed Paul McCartney’s “Yesterday” at the 2013 Emmy Awards. According to Yahoo Music, reaction was mixed, but “she had the blessing of the only person that mattered – Paul McCartney himself.” The Huffington Post added on Monday, "Despite the McCartney stamp of approval, many were flummoxed by Underwood's Emmys appearance, especially since it came after a segment that memorialized the assassination of John F. Kennedy and celebrated the Beatles' appearance on 'The Ed Sullivan Show.'" However, many other TV writers have praised Underwood’s Emmy performance.
In 2010, Carrie married Canadian hockey player Mike Fisher during a dream wedding at Georgia’s Ritz-Carlton Reynolds Plantation. Now that the bride and groom have been married for three years, E! will examine how they cope with the constant media spotlight.
Whether they have a stadium full of fans or a crowd on the red carpet screaming their name, professional athletes and Hollywood’s hottest stars, like Carrie and Mike, live in the spotlight. Kim Zolciak (wife of Kroy Biermann from the Atlanta Falcons and past star of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta”) and Kristin Cavallari (star of “The Hills” and new wife of Chicago Bears’ quarterback Jay Cutler) will also be featured on “Power Players: Sports’ Hottest Couples.” E! plans to show how these duos met, the challenges they face, and how they make their relationships work on and off the field.
For more insider information on these famous couples, tune into the brand new E! special “Power Players: Sports’ Hottest Couples,” hosted by Gabrielle Reece. It premiers on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. EST and PST on E!
