Carrie Fisher confirmed she will reprise the role of Princess Leia in an interview with Palm Beach Illustrated that was published March 6. Carrie will join her co-stars Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford in "Star Wars: Episode VII," which is being directed by J.J. Abrams. The dormant franchise has been brought back to life recently following Lucasfilm being sold to Disney.
Fisher recently made headlines when she allegedly appeared drunk on stage aboard a cruise ship. Her reps have stated that the actress was not under the influence, but instead was having an episode related to her previously diagnosed bi-polar disorder. She has been hospitalized since that incident.
Carrie is the daughter of actress Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher. She revealed her struggles with mental illness, drug addiction and alcoholism in her book “Postcards From the Edge,” which was later turned into a film. She continued discussing the subject in her autobiography “Wishful Drinking.” Her second book was eventually transformed into a highly successful one-woman show that was broadcast on HBO.
