We decided to use a Christmas gift card at Carrabba's Italian Grill last weekend. Even though there are only 3 of these restaurants in Indiana, the one we visited on Southport is right off of I-65, resulting in easy access from all around Indianapolis.
The complimentary bread they served is just what you hope for when you visit any good Italian restaurant. It was a small loaf of deliciously warm, crusty Italian bread served with herbed dipping oil.
I asked the server to recommend a salad and he suggested either the Fiorucci or Johnny Rocco. I chose the latter and let me tell you, this salad is no wimpy rabbit food.
Insalata Johnny Rocco Grilled shrimp and scallops, roasted red peppers, olives and ricotta salata in vinaigrette
With the dressing on the side, this hearty and sophisticated dish was not only healthy and low in fat, but delicious and satisfying. The scallops and shrimp were still warm when placed on the bed of greens. The kalamata olives and ricotta cheese added salty and rich flavors.
On Carrabba's website, they offer several of their classic recipes for you to try, including homemade stocks, bread, tomato sauce, pesto etc. Click here to view all.
