Teen tennis sensation Caroline Wozniacki upset three-time Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova at the U.S. Open on Labor Day. Wozniacki won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Wozniacki, 20, from Denmark had played Sharapova twice before with Sharapova winning the matches. This time, Wozniacki was the winner at the end of the two-hour match.
One of the points against Sharapova took Wozniacki 29 strokes. "For me it was important to keep as many balls in the court but still try to move her around and try to dictate as well," Wozniacki said. "I think I'm a really tough player. I never give up. Doesn't matter what the score is."
Wozniacki is currently on a 12-game winning streak and is quickly becoming the one to beat this year at the U.S. Open. Interest is Wozniacki skyrocketed after her win on Monday as people searched the Internet to find out more information about the young Dane.
"I believe in myself more," Wozniacki said. "I believe I can do it. I feel like everything is possible."
The U.S. Open women's semifinals and finals air live on CBS (KTHV Ch. 11 in Little Rock) September 10-11.
