Carolina Rebellion returns for 2014 to the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord N.C. After a very soggy debut in 2013, we learned several things.
Nasty weather will not deter rock and metal fans from seeing a quality show! Despite the cool and wet climate, rebel'ers showed up to support their bands. We also learned that the Charlotte Motor Speedway makes for a very good location giving access to many metropolitan markets.
The stages and infrastructure was arranged well, managed well, and the only complaint was the lack of a good plan "B" for the rain. Understanding all the potential hazards with water and electrical instruments I can appreciate the caution. The 2013 line up was exceptionally tantalizing. Unfortunately many of the bands I wanted to see cancelled due to Sunday's excessive down pour.
Provided we get a rain free weekend in May, I expect the 2014 festival to be bigger and better than ever. One of the teasers for this year is going to be more of a full 3 day schedule. Previously the show included Friday opening day as a light schedule including newer bands and local talent. It's possible this year we will see the Friday schedule to include more bands, start earlier in the day, and include some national acts.
There is no doubt this festival is following in the foot steps of "Rock on the Range" and may soon be more of a regional event to encompass multi-state audiences not limited to the Carolinas. When this happens, do us a favor... keep the name. Carolina Rebellion is our event! We are happy to share with all the "out-of-staters" but we want to keep the name wrights to this monumental celebration of rock in the Carolinas.
