According to a statement released to Reality Tea on March 11, Irwin revealed (via his rep) that he was surprised to see that their relationship had been fodder for Radziwill's new book, since he was "under the impression they had agreed to keep the details of their personal lives… personal."
That being said, Irwin added that he understands why Radziwill speaks with such candor when it comes to their on-again, off-again relationship.
"It’s true what she’s told a lot of these tabloids recently: that ultimately, we wanted different things," he admitted. "I asked her to marry me. She said she would never marry anyone ever again."
Although the pair appear to be civil at this point, the breakup seems to have taken its toll on Irwin who resorted to what he knows to get through it -- song writing. In the midst of their hardest moments, Irwin wrote a song titled "So Close To Heaven."
"I suppose her catharsis was writing a guide to sex and dating," he explained. "Mine was writing an album."
